Parrot is a broad term used for more than 350 birds. Birds such as love birds, cockatoos, amazons etc. are all considered parrots. Despite their great diversity, parrots carry similarities as well. Parrots are characterized by their curved beak and four toes on each foot. Such birds with four toes on each foot are known as zygodactyls. These four toes are placed in a manner where two point forwards and two project backwards. The main advantage of their foot placement is to hold food items.

The greatest diversities exist in parts of the world such as South America and Central America. Parrots are also seen in countries such as India, South East Asia and West Africa which hold warm climates.

For this reason taking good care of exotic parrots requires more work than simply feeding the bird. Special care and constant stimuli will ensure that the pet remains health in mind and body.
